Your tone can be professional, playful, poetic or whatever fits your personal brand!

Today two people asked for my makeup artistry business card =) The first person commented on my makeup, and I had let her know I am a makeup artist, she then asked if I could do her drag makeup some time and of course I'm up for it! The second girl started talking to me at the bus stop and she had mentioned that she liked the way I did my eyeshadow and again, I let her know I do makeup and gave her one of my cards. It feels amazing to be handing out my card and getting potential clients. So, that's my small win of the week.

Hey creatives!

Whether you're a makeup artist, writer, designer, performer, or you wear all the hats, you've likely felt the sting of burnout. You love what you do, but even passion can run dry when pressure builds.

This thread is your gentle nudge to check in with yourself and maybe even pick up a tip or two from others who get it.

Burnout: What It Looks Like

Constant fatigue, even after rest. If you overdo it, you can leave yourself feeling depleted so even though you've slept or rested you still don't feel like you have any energy. Give yourself some time and allow yourself to have some downtime, relaxation and re-focus.

Loss of motivation or joy in your craft. This happens to the best of us. Though we love what we do sometimes we overdo it to the point where it just isn't any fun anymore. Sometimes we just need to take a pause, take some time away from the craft and then remind ourselves why we started with the craft in the first place, what was our goal? What inspired us? Once you remember all the why's it'll be easier to find motivation.

Trouble concentrating or finishing projects. Sometimes we overwhelm ourselves with the amount of work we take on. Another problem that may occur is that when you take your work home with you whether it's editing photos, memorizing lines etc. there can be a lot of distractions at home that may uninspire us or demotivate us. I would strongly suggest having a workstation is that somewhere where you do not get any distractions or lose concentration.

Comparing yourself to others and feeling "behind". I see this happen all too much where people try to keep up with their colleagues or competition so they just over commit, over work and at that point that your work isn't fun or exciting anymore. My suggestion is to only compare yourself to you. As long as you're doing better or improving yourself, you're progressing. When you're comparing yourself to others it isn't fair because you don't know if that other person is getting help or if they have more resources. Maybe they've even been at it longer, so they have found their momentum. Either way, it's good to be aware of your competition but it's not helpful if you're always comparing yourself to other or if you feel like you're behind. Just stay focused on what you've got to do and soon enough you'll feel like you're ahead of what you were when you started.

Feeling like your creativity is just... gone. Sometimes when we get clients and we have to work with what they want it kind of sucks out some of the creativity or fun for us. It is really important to remember to find your creativity again whether it's by creating art, writing or acting.

Recognize yourself in any of that? You're not alone. Let's talk about it!

Here are some recharging ideas (That aren't just "sleep more" 😉)

  • Low-pressure art sessions just for you

  • Listening to music that stirs up good vibes

  • Nature walks (or city strolls!) with no agenda

  • Creating something bad on purpose just for fun

  • Taking a social media detox

  • Connecting with a creative friend for a vent + laugh session

Gentle Reminder:
Your worth isn't measured by your productivity. You're allowed to pause. You're allowed to say no. And you're definitely allowed to create at your own pace. It's okay to say no to projects or some work if you just don't have the time for it or it you're just not feeling it. People can feel when you're faking it so don't overcommit yourself when it comes to work and projects.

Check-In Time!
Copy + paste these check-in prompts and share your answers

How are you really feeling lately?

What's one creative thing you wish you had energy for right now?

What helps you feel refreshed or re-inspired?

Do you have a go-to burnout cure (or one you want to try)?

So let's lift each other up—drop your check-in below, share what's been working for you, and send a little encouragement to someone else while you're at it. 💖

Hey dream-chasers! Whether you're a makeup artist, photographer, designer, or any other creative soul, a business plan isn't just for the suits. It's your creative roadmap! Here's how to build one that's clear, purposeful, and totally YOU.

1. Start with Your 'Why'

Your business plan begins with purpose. Why are you doing this? What lights you up? What kind of creative legacy do you want to leave?
Write it down. Your "why" becomes your anchor when things get chaotic (and they will).

Define Your Creative Goals
Get specific. Instead of "I want to grow my brand," try:
  • Book 10 new clients this quarter
  • Launch a new product line by fall
  • Host a workshop in July

Clarity creates focus and focus fuels momentum.

3. Know Your Audience

Who are you serving? Who needs your creativity in their life?
Define your ideal client like you're describing a character in your favourite series. What are they looking for? Where do they hang out? What problems do you solve for them?

4. Set Up Your Services + Pricing

What are you offering? Packages? Products? Experiences?
Get clear on your pricing and make sure it reflects both your value and your market. Pro tip: Check what others charge in your area, but don't undervalue your magic!

5. Marketing & Promotion Plan

How will people find you?
Will you use social media, email lists, pop-up events, referrals, or forums (like this one  ;) )?
Choose a few channels you enjoy and that align with where your dream clients spend time.

6. Budgeting & Money Flow

I know, numbers aren't always the fun part, but they're the freedom part.
Track your income, expenses, and set a monthly budget. You're not just building a creative business; you're building stability and future options.

7. Review & Refresh

A business plan isn't written in stone. It's a living document that grows with you.
Review your goals monthly or quarterly. Celebrate what's working, and don't be afraid to shift what isn't.

Your creative career deserves structure, not stress.
Let your plan be a launchpad, not a limitation.

Whether you're preparing for an audition, a shoot, or a live performance, knowing your lines inside and out can make all the difference. In this thread, we're sharing tips and techniques that help you not only memorize lines but truly embody them, because anyone can read, but a true performer makes the words come alive.

Step 1: Read With Intention

Don't just scan the script, read it like a story. Who are you? What's your purpose in the scene? What emotions are you navigating? Reading for understanding gives the lines meaning and context, making them easier to remember. A big tip is to read EVERYTHING. If you're auditioning for one side read ALL sides. Sometimes you can get more information about your character through what the other side/characters are saying and sometimes you'll understand the mood or understand the setting better through the other sides. So always make sure to read everything on the audition papers.

Step 2: Chunking Is Your Friend

Break your script into smaller parts. Learn your lines in short sections (2-3 sentences at a time) and build from there. This prevents overwhelm and helps you build natural flow.

Step 3: Say It Out Loud (and Often!)

Repetition is key but hearing your own voice say the lines out loud reinforces memory and helps with delivery. Even better? Practice with a partner or record yourself to play it back.

Step 4: Use Movement or Gestures

Linking your lines to physical movement can help lock them into your muscle memory. It's especially effective for scenes with big emotions or physical action. That said, try not to get too locked into one specific gesture or emotion. I've been to auditions where they've asked me to switch the mood—say, from angry to cheerful—without changing the dialogue. So, it's important to stay flexible and be ready to adjust your delivery and movements on the fly.

Step 5: Mirror Practice

Rehearsing in front of a mirror lets you see your expressions, work on timing, and become more aware of how you're delivering your lines emotionally. So, this can be of great help to being more aware of what you look like when you go to audition.

Step 6: Write It Out

Writing your lines by hand can give your brain a second exposure and boost memorization. Bonus: jot down any emotional beats or changes in tone to mark transitions in the script.

Step 7: Use Memorization Apps

Apps like Rehearsal Pro, LineLearner, or Script Rehearser can be game changers when you're learning on the go or need a scene partner on demand. Don't do it all by yourself, download an app and let it help you memorize your sides.

Bonus Tip: Sleep On It
Go over your lines before bed, your brain will continue processing and storing that info while you sleep.

Have your own memorization tricks that help you master a script faster? Share them below! Let's build a treasure trove of techniques that every performer can benefit from.

Hey everyone,

Let's talk about one of the realest parts of building success in this industry: networking and forming strong relationships. Whether you're a makeup artist, photographer, model, stylist, or creative in any field, your network can be the key to consistent bookings and exciting new opportunities.

I created this thread to share some tips, ideas, and personal experiences as well as to hear yours, too!

Let's start with the basics: What does networking really mean in our industry?

It's not just swapping Instagram handles or handing out business cards. Real networking is about making meaningful connections, the kind where people remember you, recommend you, and want to work with you again. And that doesn't happen overnight. It's about showing up, supporting others, and creating value in every interaction.

Here are a few tips to help you build stronger relationships and grow your bookings:

1. Show up and stay consistent. Whether online or in-person, be active in your community. Join local events, forums (like this one!), and workshops. Visibility builds trust.

2. Support others without expecting something back. Comment, like, share, refer. People remember who had their back.

3. Follow up. If you had a great collaboration or chat with someone, check in. Keep the relationship going — it can lead to future work.

4. Invest in your presentation. Your portfolio, online profiles, and communication style should reflect the level of professionalism you bring to every job.

5. Ask for testimonials. A good word goes a long way. Don't be shy — if someone loved working with you, chances are they'd be happy to write a review or refer you.

6. Say yes (within reason). Sometimes doing that one unpaid shoot with the right team can open the door to five paid ones. However, if you really don't want to do something don't. If you are unhappy at an event people will sense it.

Something to always keep in mind is that this industry thrives on collaboration. Some of my best opportunities came from word of mouth, mutual connections, or random conversations that turned into something magical. You never know where your next booking will come from, but if you keep showing up, you're putting yourself in the right places to be seen and remembered.

Let's open this up to the community:

What's one connection that helped you get more bookings?
How do you stay connected in such a fast-paced industry?
Any red flags when networking that we should watch out for?
Share your stories, tips, and shoutouts below! Let's help each other grow.

Hello beauties! Let's talk foundation for a few minutes because it's the base of every great look and the one thing that can either make your makeup pop or disappear by lunch time. Whether you're working with dry skin, oily skin or combination skin, here are my top 6 pro tips as a makeup artist to get that smooth, long-wearing foundation that looks like second skin and not a mask.
    • Step 1: Skin Prep Is Essential Even with Oily Skin.

Your makeup will only ever be as good as what's underneath it.

Dry skin: Exfoliate 1-2 times a week and hydrate like your glow depends on it (because it truly does). Look for moisturizers with hyaluronic acid or ceramides.

Oily skin: Exfoliate 2-3 times a week and don't skip the moisturizer! Opt for a gel-based formula and use a balancing toner.
    • Step 2: Use the Right Primer.
Just like the with exfoliation when you use primer the base of the primer that you use will differ depending on your skin type.

Dry skin: Try a hydrating primer with a dewy finish.

Oily skin: Go for a mattifying or blurring primer.

If you have uneven texture/large pores: Silicone-based smoothing primers will be your bestie!

Pro tip: Don't put too much primer on your face, too much primer on your face is the fast track to seperation city.
    • Step 3: Conceal and Correct Like a Pro- Less is More!
Foundation doesn't need to do all of the heavy lifting and we don't want to cake on foundation so concealing any blemishes or colour correcting redness/dark circle will help you create a flawless base so you don't have to put on layers upon layers of foundation to conceal and correct.

      Correct if needed:
      Dark circles:
Use a peachy or salmon-toned corrector to neutralize the blue/purple before concealer.

Redness: A green-tinted corrector will tone it down - just a dab though, a little goes a long way.

Pro tip: When colour correcting always refer to the colour wheel, whatever colour you want to correct use the colour at the opposite end of the colour wheel. Apply corrector only where needed and blend gently with your clean ring finger or a small brush.

      Concealer:

Choose a shade slightly lighter than your foundation for brightening, or exactly matching for spot concealing.

Apply under the eyes in a triangle (for younger people) and a thin line on the outer edge or the eye and the inner edge of the eye for people who are in their 30's or older (You kind of want to create a spaced out \ /) Tap and blend the product.

For blemishes, let the concealer sit for 30 seconds before blending this will grip better and give more coverage.

Pro tip: less product + precise placement = more natural finish.
    • Step 4: Apply Foundation Strategically, Not Like You're Painting a Wall.

Instead of slathering it on, start in the center of your face and work outwards. The middle of the face is where most people need the most coverage anyway.

      Brush = more coverage
Damp sponge = more skin-like finsih
Fingers = natural, but make sure your hands are clean and be gentle.

Pro tip: Remember to build thin layers. One layer with spot-concealing looks way better than caking on too much.
    • Step 5: Blend with Purpose and Check in Natural Light.

Blending isn't a race. Take your time to press foundation into the skin, especially around the nose, hairline, and jaw. Use a mirror by a window to double-check for streaks or edges.

Pro Tip: You really don't want to look like you're wearing a mask in daylight so it is super important to check your makeup with natural light.
    • Step 6: Set it Like You Mean It But Don't Bake it to Death.

Dry skin: A light dusting of finely-milled powder only where you need it (usually under the eye and T-zone)
Oily skin: Try powder before foundation in oily zones and then again after for serious staying powder.
Combination skin: Put powder on before foundation where you have oily zones and then lightly dust under the eye and T-zone.
Everyone: Use a setting spray, not only does it lock things into place, but it also helps everything melt together beautifully. Lastly once the setting spray is dried use finishing spray

Combination skin: Exfoliate up to 2 times a week. Hydrate the dry zones and mattify oily areas. You want to treat different areas (oily/dry) differently.Pro tips: Use moisturizers that already have sunscreen and SPF's in them so you don't have to put on sunscreen before makeup application. The sun is the #1 aging agent and you want to apply sunscreen on all year round. Secondly, use a facial mist after moisturizer to help everything melt together before primer, but make sure your face is dry before you add the primer.  Here are some bonus tips I've learned as a makeup artist:Mix a drop of face oil into foundation for glow on dry skin days.Mix a touch of liquid highlighter into your base for that soft-focus sheen. Use foundation that matches your undertone. If you're not sure, get matched in natural lighting or ask a pro (like me!)

Do you have any ride or die foundation hacks or products you love? Drop them below, I love hearing what works for your unique skin!
Let's keep slaying those base routines, one flawless face at a time!
